IPTV for Android: Phones, Tablets and TV Boxes

Android gives you the widest choice of IPTV apps of any platform, and it is the only place TiviMate runs. Whether you are on a phone, a tablet or an Android TV box, the setup is the same and takes about three minutes.

What works

Device Install method Best app
Android phone or tablet Google Play IPTV Smarters Pro
Android TV box (Nvidia Shield, Mi Box, generic) Google Play, or sideload TiviMate
Android TV / Google TV television Google Play TiviMate
Chromecast with Google TV Google Play TiviMate

Setting up on Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store and install IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate.
  2. Open the app and accept the terms.
  3. Choose Login with Xtream Codes API, or in TiviMate, Add playlist → Xtream Codes.
  4. Enter a name for the playlist, then your server URL, username and password.
  5. Wait for the channel list and guide to download — 30 to 90 seconds on first load.

Typing is easier here than anywhere else. On a phone or tablet you have a real keyboard, so copy and paste your credentials directly from our message. This eliminates the typos that cause most “invalid credentials” errors on remote-controlled devices.

Android TV boxes

Boxes range from excellent to barely functional, and the difference is almost entirely memory and processor.

  • Nvidia Shield — the best Android streaming device made. Expensive, but nothing handles 4K IPTV better.
  • Xiaomi Mi Box / TV Stick — good value, certified Google TV, Play Store included.
  • Chromecast with Google TV — compact and capable, though storage fills quickly.
  • Generic budget boxes — often uncertified, with no Play Store and outdated Android. Workable, but you will be sideloading.

Sideloading on a box without Play Store

Some cheaper boxes have no Google Play. Install a file downloader from whatever store the box provides, then use it to fetch the player app’s installation file. You will need to allow installation from unknown sources in Settings → Security first.

Message us and we will send the current working link for the app you want.

Choosing between the two main apps

  IPTV Smarters Pro TiviMate
Platforms Everything Android and Fire OS only
Interface Functional Excellent, TV-first
On demand Built in Limited
Guide layout Basic Proper grid guide
Recording No Premium version
Cost Free Free tier, paid premium

On a phone, use IPTV Smarters Pro — it handles on-demand better and the interface suits touch. On a TV box, TiviMate is markedly nicer to live with.

IBO Player and Hot Player on Android boxes

Both are worth knowing about if you are on an Android TV box, because they connect in a different way: instead of typing a server URL and password with the remote, the app shows a device key and MAC address, and you attach the playlist from a web page on your phone or laptop.

Smarters / TiviMate IBO Player / Hot Player
Connection Typed into the app Added via a web dashboard
Typing on the remote Required None
Format needed Xtream Codes Usually an M3U link
Cost Free (TiviMate premium optional) One-off activation fee
Changing playlist later In the app On the dashboard, no TV needed

To set either up:

  1. Install IBO Player or Hot Player from Google Play, or sideload it if your box has no Play Store.
  2. Open it and note the device key and MAC address on the first screen.
  3. Go to the activation website shown there, from your phone or computer.
  4. Enter the device key and MAC, then add your playlist using the M3U URL we sent, or your Xtream Codes details if the dashboard asks separately.
  5. Save, restart the app on the box, and your channels load.

The dashboard model has a genuine advantage on a box that lives under a television: you can swap or update the playlist later from your phone without touching the remote at all.

Both charge a one-off activation fee after a short trial, paid to the app developer rather than to us. We receive no part of it and cannot waive or refund it. IPTV Smarters Pro and TiviMate’s free tier cost nothing and do the same job if you would rather avoid it.

Ask us for an M3U link if you plan to use either of these — it is the format their dashboards expect, and we can send it alongside your Xtream Codes details.

Getting the best results

  • Prefer ethernet on boxes. Most Android boxes have a port; use it for 4K.
  • Check the decoder setting if audio drifts out of sync — switch between hardware and software decoding.
  • Turn off battery optimisation for the app on phones, or Android will throttle it in the background.
  • Keep storage free. Guide data and app cache need room; a full box stutters.
  • Set the correct time zone, or the TV guide will show everything shifted by a fixed number of hours.

Android troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause Fix
App not in Play Store Uncertified box or region Sideload using a downloader app
“Invalid credentials” Typo or trailing space Copy and paste from our message
Buffering on 4K only Wi-Fi bandwidth Use ethernet, or pick the FHD stream
Audio out of sync Decoder Toggle hardware/software decoding in settings
Playback stops in background Battery optimisation Exclude the app in Android battery settings
Guide times wrong Time zone Correct the device time zone, not the app
App crashes on launch Corrupt cache Settings → Apps → clear cache, then reopen
Box very slow generally Underpowered hardware Reduce to FHD streams, or change device

Android IPTV FAQ

How do I set up IPTV on Android?

Install IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate from the Google Play Store, open the app, choose Login with Xtream Codes API, and enter the server URL, username and password sent to you. The channel list and guide load within a minute or two.

What is the best IPTV app for Android?

TiviMate has the best interface and guide layout and is ideal on an Android TV box, though its best features need the paid version. IPTV Smarters Pro is free, handles on-demand better and works on phones and tablets as well as TVs.

Can I watch IPTV on an Android phone?

Yes. Install a player from Google Play and enter your details. Phones are also the easiest device to set up, because you can copy and paste your credentials rather than typing them with a remote.

Which Android TV box is best for IPTV?

The Nvidia Shield is the strongest performer, particularly for 4K. The Xiaomi Mi Box and Chromecast with Google TV are good value alternatives. Avoid uncertified budget boxes with no Play Store and old Android versions.

My Android box has no Play Store. What do I do?

Install a file downloader from whatever store the box provides, allow installation from unknown sources in Settings then Security, and use the downloader to install the player app. Message us for a current working link.

Why does IPTV stop playing when I switch apps on my phone?

Android battery optimisation suspends background apps. Exclude your IPTV player from battery optimisation in Android settings and playback will continue.

Why is the audio out of sync on Android?

This is nearly always the decoder. Open the player’s settings and switch between hardware and software decoding; one of the two will resolve it on your particular device.

Can I use the same subscription on my phone and my TV box?

Yes. Install it on as many devices as you like. On a single-stream plan only one plays at a time, and switching between them is instant.

How do I set up IBO Player or Hot Player on an Android box?

Install the app, open it, and note the device key and MAC address shown on the first screen. From your phone or computer, go to the activation website displayed there, enter the device key and MAC, and add your playlist using the M3U link we send. Restart the app on the box and your channels load.

What is the difference between IBO Player and TiviMate?

TiviMate is configured on the device itself by typing your Xtream Codes details, and has the better channel guide. IBO Player takes its playlist from a web dashboard, so there is no typing on the remote and you can change the playlist later from your phone. IBO Player charges a one-off activation fee; TiviMate has a free tier.

Do IBO Player and Hot Player need an M3U link?

Their dashboards usually expect an M3U playlist URL, so ask us for one. We can send an M3U link alongside your normal Xtream Codes details at no extra cost.
